Busy, Busy, B

I am ridiculously busy right now, so busy in fact that I barely even think of writing. However, it is the end of the week and I figured now was a good time to jot a little note to everyone about how we are all doing.

Shannon just finished another semester (or quarter or trimester) in school and received her GPA – it is apx a 3.4. It cracks me up that she gets a GPA in first grade. Lisa says this GPA is exactly the same as her prior one; however her grades bounced around some. For example her Religion grade fell from an A to a C. I’m having trouble being too upset about that one. So long as she does well in her scholastic courses like Math, Reading, Social Studies, and Science I’m really not too concerned about her religion scores.

The whole Religion thing is really an odd topic for me. I’m glad she goes to the school she does because I can see, based on the other kids her age we know who don’t go there, that she is being taught at a higher level and a faster rate (which only minimally helps keep her from getting bored). However, the religious aspect will always be a bit of a point of contention. She just eats it all up simply because her teacher is old and therefore wise. I try to talk to her about it form different perspectives but I’m not sure she buys my logic :O) – it’s not too big of a deal but I really hope that, as she gets older, she will at least think about what she is choosing to believe in instead of just blindly accepting it.

Emily is cruising through preschool. I had to go pick her up the other day and her teacher said she is a little unlike the other kids in the class in that she doesn’t always want to play with other kids. She is about 50/50 in playing with others or just entertaining herself. She reminds me a lot of myself as a kid and her self-isolation from the other kids is no exception. Her lying isn’t one either. That girl can’t seem to do anything without lying about it. For instance we were eating dinner the other night and she brought her blanket to the table; as she swung it up it hit her cup and spilled the water. Once she saw the spill, which the entire family witnessed, she immediately said, “I didn’t do that.” It is funny but a little troublesome at the same time. There wasn’t much that would stop me from lying as a kid so I’m not really sure how we can address that with her.

Lisa still has her tonsils and gall bladder but both need to go. She is scheduled to lose the gall bladder next month but she is trying to talk the doctors out of having her tonsils removed. She read this article that described the process in a most horrible fashion so now she is really nervous about the idea.

On a more positive note she has been amazingly supportive of me in my super busy time at work. She has basically been a single parent for most nights and mornings and has really stepped up and done a lot to help me out. I really, really appreciate all that she has done to enable me to try and reach my deadlines. The work I am doing is one part of a huge initiative we are undertaking with a giant customer that could really help the company. It is great that she has been so understanding and helpful.

I’m still working on the project I was working on when I went to Hong Kong last year. I was really nervous about it last month but this past few weeks have really shown a lot of progress and I’m feeling much, much better about the project overall now. I actually had to basically throw away everything I did in Hong Kong and start over in November but fortunately, the business rules I learned while there still all applied so it makes the development, this time around, a little smoother in that regard simply because I’m not learning as much.

Tonight Lisa and I are going to see the show, “Billy Joe’s Movin’ Out” which should be pretty cool. I’ve only heard good things about it so I’m pretty excited. Then, before you know it, we will be off to Atlanta for the NHL All Star Weekend. Joe and the girls will be staying behind while we enjoy a nice five day/night vacation from everything. I’m really looking forward to it.

Finally, Ted (my older brother) and I have been talking casually about trying out for a future season of “The Amazing Race” I think we would dominate if we were to make it onto the show. I’ll keep you updated if we actually get to try-out or, even more miraculously, make it.
