Lisa part deux

Well, things with Lisa didn’t cease to get suprising yesterday. After my work day ended I spoke with her on the phone and she said that the doctor was not happy with her condition and that if it didn’t improve the baby would be delivered before Thanksgiving! GULP! Before thanksgiving? Give a guy a chance to mentally prepare please.

OK I’m prepared now. Shannon and I swung by the hospital to visit Lisa in the evening and her spirits seemed to be high. After leaving her so that we could go eat dinner we met up at the house with some friends; Thomas, Stacy, Jason, and Misi (and Ben of course). Stacy and Misi dove right in with helping hands to get Emily’s room ready for her potential arrival during the next week or so. Meanwhile Jason, Thomas, and I went to work on Shannon’s room moving old baby furniture out (into Emily’s room) and installing a new light fixture/ceiling fan combo in Shannon’s room replacing a grosteque antique thing that hung lead old lichen from the ceiling.

Today, Lisa was moved to a new room. The folks in “3 North” didn’t have a good enough monitor system to keep track of Emily so Lisa was shifted to the Labor and Delivery section of the floor for closer monitoring. At some point today they will induce some minor uterine contractions to see how Emily handles the added physical stress. I presume that if things do not go well that the Doctor will go ahead with delivering the baby tomorrow.

Honestly, I think it is a done deal regardless of how the contraction tests go. One of the nurses suggested that Lisa would be taken off of her perspection of Lovalox tonight. Lovalox is an anti-coagulant and Lisa is supposed to stop taking it 24 hours before she gives birth. Seems to me the only reason she would be getting taken off of the drug is if labor were pending.

Lisa’s parents are driving down to our house tonight – to be here should we need them. That will be especially helpful on thursday/friday as our babysitter, Patti, needs to take care of her alzheimer mother over the long weekend and won’t be available to us.

The only negative to them coming is that my plan of making Lisa a thanksgiving dinner will undoubtedly be spoiled as Lisa’s mother will comandeer the kitchen and I will be relegated to doing other household chores. Ah well, c’est la vie.
